You have 90 days from the day your client asks, the Rights page counts the days down on each request, and nothing closes a request for you.

The law gives you 90 days to answer a request for a copy, a correction or deletion (DPDP Rules, Rule 14). Our guide explains how to build a rights-request process.

The 90 days start on the day your client asks. For a request made through the rights link, that is the moment they confirm it. For one you record from the client's folder, it is the Asked on date you enter. You can enter today or an earlier day, and the app refuses a later one.

The Rights page shows the day your answer is due on every open request. The label beside it reads due in a number of days, due today, or a number of days past the limit. A request past its day sits under Past the 90-day limit. A request within 7 days of it sits under Due within 7 days. Home shows the same counts in its Rights bar.

For a request made through the rights link, we ring the bell when it arrives. The next daily summary lists it. If a request is still open, however it arrived, we do the same 30 days before the due day and again 7 days before. These notices go to everyone whose role holds the Answer rights requests switch. Admins hold every switch, so admins always get them. We send nothing once the due day has passed.

Nothing closes a request on its own. An unanswered request stays open past its due day until you answer it. A withdrawal or an erasure of the client also closes it. You answer by marking a copy done, marking a correction done, answering a deletion request or declining.

For example

Anita Deshpande asks Amaltas Deshmukh & Co for a copy through her rights link on 1 September 2027. Her answer is due on 30 November 2027, which is 90 days later. The reminders come in the first nightly run after 31 October 2027 and after 23 November 2027, 30 days and 7 days before. From 23 November 2027 her request sits under Due within 7 days.
