The consent box sits in a panel called Your consent. The panel opens when you choose Add on a document, or tap a typed answer, before you have agreed. The box is never ticked for you, and Agree and continue stays off until you tick it.
Beside the box is one sentence. It reads: I agree to share the items listed with the firm for the purpose stated, kept for the period shown. The items, the firm's name, the purpose and the period all come from the notice for your request. Choose Read the full notice to see the whole notice. It covers what is collected, why, how long it is kept, your rights, the grievance contact, complaints, your consent and our role. The notice's consent wording says you give free, specific, informed, unconditional and unambiguous consent to the collection and use of the data listed, for the stated purpose only.
When you choose Agree and continue, we record your consent with the date and time in India and the version of the notice you saw. If you chose to read the notice in another language, the notice in that language is the one recorded. This happens before any file can be added. The page then shows Consent recorded with the time. You are not asked again on the same link. The notice is frozen for your request, so your receipt carries a fingerprint of the exact notice you agreed to.
Ticking the box shares nothing with the firm. A file you add is not handed to the firm until you press the Send button, and you can remove it before then. If you choose Close on the panel without agreeing, nothing is recorded.
A renewal link and a consent request have consent sentences of their own. On a renewal, the sentence says the firm keeps the items you chose until a date and that the rest are deleted on the date already promised. See what a renewal means. On a consent request, nothing is uploaded. The firm already holds your documents or collects them itself, and the sentence says it keeps them in its own records for the period shown. Your answer there is Agree or I do not agree.
For example
Amaltas Deshmukh & Co asks Anita Deshpande for her PAN Card and a bank statement, for the purpose Loan application, with a retention period of 1 year. The sentence beside the box reads: I agree to share PAN Card and Bank statement with Amaltas Deshmukh & Co for Loan application, kept for up to 365 days after the purpose is served.
