A request is what you create to ask one or more people for documents or written answers, and it carries its own notice, its own retention rule and a private link for each person.

A request holds everything about one ask: the people, a title, a purpose, the documents and answers you want, the retention rule and how long each link stays open. You create it in the request builder.

When you create it, we compose the notice from your purpose, your items, your retention rule and your grievance contact. Each person gets their own private link. The person reads the notice and agrees to it before they can upload anything. You decide when and how each link goes out. Nothing is sent to anyone until you send it.

A request comes in three types:

  • Collect documents: people upload files and type answers.
  • Record consent only: you hold the documents yourself, and the person agrees to a notice about them. Nothing is uploaded.
  • A consent renewal: it asks a person to extend consent for what you already hold. It is made when a retention case is renewed, not in the builder.

A request is frozen once you create it. To ask for something different, you create a new request.
