It means the role you hold does not have the switch that page or action needs, and an admin can change that.

Not in your role appears in three places.

  • As the title of a page, with the line "Ask a firm admin if you need it" and a Back to Home button.
  • Beside a greyed control, such as New request.
  • As a short message after you try an action.

Each has the same cause. The role you hold lacks the switch that page or action needs. We check your role again every time you act, so a hidden or greyed control is not the only protection. We record an opened page and a refused action in the audit trail.

Why a colleague's screen has fewer things

The sidebar follows the switches. Requests and Clients appear only with See requests, clients and documents. Retention appears only with See the retention queue. Rights appears only with Answer rights requests. Home, Activity, Team and Settings appear for everyone.

A role without See requests, clients and documents lands on Home with a card headed Your role only has access to. The card lists the pages that role does open, such as Plan & billing.

On Team, a colleague who is not an admin sees the admins and themselves, and Invitations are sent by admins replaces the invite form. In Settings, the cards about your firm are read-only for them.

What to do

Open Team and choose View beside your role in the Roles card. It lists the switches your role holds. Ask an admin to change your role or to turn on the switch you need.

Once an admin changes your role or its switches, we sign you out. The change applies when you sign in again.
