A new password is accepted when it meets all five rules and is not on our list of common passwords.

The same rules apply when you create an account, when you reset a password and when you accept an invitation.

Before you type, the page shows a one-line hint. While you type, it shows an amber chip for each rule you have not yet met. When every rule is met, it shows Strong enough.

Under Confirm password, the page shows The two passwords are different. until the two match.

The button stays off until every rule is met and the two passwords match. On the sign-up page it is Create account. On the reset page it is Set password.

Strong enough means only that the five rules are met. When you submit, we also check the password against a list of commonly used passwords. The comparison ignores capital letters. The list includes common passwords that already carry a number or a symbol. A password on it is refused, and the page says Too easy to guess. with the reason.

A password can be up to 128 characters long. A longer one keeps the button off, with no chip to say why.

If the sign-in page says the email, password or code did not match, the rules above are not the cause. They apply only when you set a password. Reset it if you cannot recall it. After repeated wrong attempts, sign-in is paused.
